ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Encore co-founder Scott Perkins earned his Ph.D in composition with minors in music theory and music history from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. He received his master’s degrees in music theory and music theory pedagogy from Eastman, and he holds a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in music theory and composition with a sub-concentration in vocal performance from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. Scott also participated in workshops in music theory pedagogy at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he worked with such leading scholars and teachers in the field as William Caplin, Jane Piper Clendinning, Gary Karpinski, Steve Larson and Joseph Straus.

Scott taught eleven undergraduate and graduate review courses at Eastman in ear training and music theory. He designed and taught second-year honors ear-training and sight-singing courses to the some of the school’s most advanced undergraduate students in those subjects. For two years, Scott was also a member of the music theory and composition faculty at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY. Scott taught musicianship at Depauw University in Indiana for four years, earning high praise from his students.
